The Henry Morgenthau Preserve

Background:
The Henry Morgenthau Preserve is owned and managed by the Eastern New York Chapter of The Nature Conservancy. Local guidance is provided by the Morgenthau Preserve Committee, a group of local concerned citizens.

The preserve is set along the shoreline of Blue Heron Lake and includes within its boundaries a portion of the lake, a small offshore island, a number of wetland areas, a small pond, vernal pools and several small streams. Twenty acres were donated to The Nature Conservancy in 1972 by Mrs. Ruth M. Knight in memory of her father - Henry Morgenthau. An additional 12 acres were purchased from Dr. Polly Raizen in 1973 and adjacent 4-acre parcel was donated by Mr. Sid Thompson in 1994.  (click for map directions)
